Inspired by natural forms and the beauty of the sea

The latest collections from Julie Haslam Jewellery; a selection of pieces inspired by the sea and other natural forms.
Made from recycled sterling silver and often incorporating found materials, each design is created in response to a natural form. The fluidity of water, intricate patterns of organic textures and light, or the shapes of plants and seaweeds are some starting points for the development of these pieces.

Treasure found

Seaglass and ceramic shards collected from shorelines in the West country are the beginning of the story for these pieces. All are unique, the design of each being informed initially by the shape of the found pieces of glass or pottery.

The shape of the sea

Flowing, beaten shapes inspired by waves and seaweeds.

All are made from recycled silver.

Fused glass collection

A new collaboration with fused glass artist Lucy Williams. Lucywilliamsglassdesign.org

Each piece of glass is hand cut and fired, with the sterling silver setting made specifically for each bead, as sizes and shapes inevitably vary slightly.

Rings

A selection of silver rings, some incorporating gemstones, some cast in beach sand. All are individually hand made from recycled sterling silver.

Treasure Found

I have long been fascinated by sea tumbled glass found along the shore line. Its lustre can be quite fleeting, each piece having its own radiance as it is held up to the light, but disappearing once the salty surface has dried in the sun. This range of jewellery captures and celebrates that radiance.

Glass is gathered from beaches in North Cornwall, Devon and Somerset and each piece is unique: designs are determined by the size and colour of the glass. Every item is hand fabricated in my workshop, using recycled silver. Some shards are set so that polished silver reflects the light through them and others are surrounded by a silver bezel so the diffused light shines right through.

Different colours work better with different skin tones; aquas and pale blues are more subtle, whereas the greens and browns can be quite dramatic.
